On Jan 9, reports from SANA indicated that transport buses have begun moving into the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo. These vehicles are part of an operation to relocate SDF organization members to various destinations in northeastern Syria.
Ceasefire Declared in Key Aleppo Districts
This initiative was triggered by a ceasefire announcement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Defense on Thursday night. The agreement encompasses the areas of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and Bani Zaid. The primary goal of this truce is to halt all military engagements within these neighborhoods, thereby clearing the way for the re-establishment of state institutions and the rule of law.
Terms of the Withdrawal and Security Protocols
As per the ceasefire’s stipulations, the armed groups residing in the three specified neighborhoods were directed to commence their departure starting at 3:00 a.m., with a firm completion deadline of 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Departing personnel are authorized to take only their light personal weapons with them. To ensure the safety of the convoy as it travels toward northeastern Syria, the Syrian Arab Army will provide a protective escort for the duration of the journey.
