The command center for the Syrian Arab Army’s operations stated on Saturday that efforts to purge the Sheikh Maqsoud district of explosive devices and leftover elements of the SDF organization are nearly finished. These sweeping operations in the Aleppo neighborhood aim to ensure the area is entirely safe for the upcoming arrival of security personnel.
Safety Warnings for Residents
In a formal announcement issued on Saturday, the military leadership highlighted the continued risks to the public. The army operations’ command said in a statement: “We urge civilians in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood to remain at home and not go out, as some members of SDF and the terrorist PKK organizations are still hiding in the area.”
Local citizens were further encouraged to maintain communication with military units stationed throughout the sector. The statement urged residents to report any suspicious individuals or contact the forces for any emergency situations that may arise during the final stages of the sweep.
Progress of Mine Clearance and Arrests
Earlier in the process, the Syrian army successfully neutralized dozens of mines that had been planted across the streets of Sheikh Maqsoud. This critical work was performed to pave the way for the deployment of internal security forces, which is set to occur once the clearing activities have reached their conclusion.
As the mission progressed, several members belonging to the SDF organization were taken into custody. Furthermore, the Syrian Arab Army managed to seize a significant cache of military hardware. The confiscated items included heavy and medium weaponry, light arms, various explosive devices, and large amounts of ammunition.
