More than 3,000 civilians were moved to safety on Wednesday as the Syrian Civil Defense responded to a deepening humanitarian emergency in Aleppo. The mass evacuation was necessitated by a crisis triggered by persistent shelling from the SDF organization, which has targeted residential sectors of the city.

Government Commitment to Public Safety

Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed Al-Saleh, recently highlighted the government’s role in safeguarding its people, asserting that every individual is a “responsibility of the state.” Writing on the social media platform X, Al-Saleh stated that “Syria will remain a strong, unified country that protects the dignity and lives of its people.”

The minister further noted that his department is fully prepared to provide necessary aid to families attempting to reach secure locations as volatility continues in the Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafieh districts of Aleppo.

Civil Defense Response and Rescue Efforts

The Syrian Civil Defense coordinated the removal of over 3,000 people, primarily from the most heavily impacted areas. Rescue teams managed the evacuation flow through al-Awarid and al-Zuhur streets, where they also administered first aid to the elderly. Displaced families were escorted to temporary shelter facilities or to safe destinations of their own choosing. The Civil Defense confirmed its ongoing readiness to handle any further emergency developments.

Casualties and Neighborhood Blockades

The situation remains dire as the SDF organization continues to strike areas near Al-Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud. Utilizing mortar shells alongside medium and heavy machine gun fire, the attacks have resulted in four civilian deaths and 27 injuries. In addition to the physical strikes, hundreds of residents are reportedly being trapped within their neighborhoods, prevented from fleeing by persistent gunfire and tactics of intimidation.
