In an effort to bolster national security, the Lebanese Army declared on Thursday that the initial stage of its strategy to consolidate all weaponry under state authority has been finished. This move highlights the military’s dedication to ensuring peace and order throughout Lebanon, as reported by Beirut, Jan. 8 (SANA).
According to reports from the National News Agency, this first segment of the plan concentrated on broadening the military’s physical footprint. The army worked to secure vital zones and assert operational dominance within the South Litani sector, excluding regions that remain under Israeli occupation.
Maintaining Sovereignty in South Litani
The military emphasized its unwavering commitment to being the sole entity responsible for security across the nation. In collaboration with other national security departments, the army is prioritizing the region south of the Litani River to re-establish border stability and ensure the area is not utilized for any military maneuvers.
Operational Progress and Security Measures
Ongoing activities include the removal of unexploded munitions and the destruction of tunnels. The army stated these measures are designed to solidify state control and ensure that armed factions are permanently blocked from reconstructing their military infrastructure.
However, the statement pointed out that the persistent occupation of certain Lebanese locations and ongoing Israeli attacks serve as significant hurdles. These factors impede the full expansion of state power and the centralization of all arms within the national forces.
Finally, the Lebanese Army reiterated its continued partnership with the ceasefire monitoring mechanism and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This cooperation is viewed as a vital component for sustaining peace in the South Litani region.
