Following a series of attacks by the SDF organization that targeted housing areas, authorities in Aleppo have declared a suspension of all government operations and school classes for Wednesday, officials confirmed on Jan. 6.
Safety Measures and Essential Services
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib stated that the decision was prompted by what he described as “indiscriminate artillery fire” that caused damage to hospitals and various public facilities. To maintain the availability of basic requirements, Gharib noted that emergency, medical, and service personnel are exempt from the work stoppage.
While acknowledging that the suspension impacts the ongoing school year, officials stressed that protecting lives is the main priority. They continue to observe the evolving situation and have encouraged local residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Casualties Reported in Recent Attacks
The security situation worsened earlier on Tuesday when a drone strike near Sheikh Maqsoud killed one soldier and wounded several others. Additionally, shelling by the SDF organization on nearby residential sectors led to the deaths of three civilians, including two women.
