Following security concerns on Jan. 6, air travel through Aleppo Airport has been put on hold for a 24-hour period. This suspension was initiated by The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport in direct response to the SDF organization’s indiscriminate shelling of residential neighborhoods within Aleppo.
Rerouting to Damascus Airport
As a result of the temporary closure, all incoming and outgoing flights originally scheduled for the Aleppo facility are being redirected to Damascus Airport. This logistical shift ensures that air transport services continue while avoiding the impacted area.
Ensuring Passenger Safety
The authority emphasized that the primary goal of this temporary suspension is to safeguard travelers and minimize any dangers connected to the ongoing military strikes targeting the city. Officials stated that the measure is a necessary precaution to prevent risks associated with the current security environment.
