During a statement on Jan.10 in Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the March 10 agreement between the SDF organization and the Syrian government as a highly practical project. However, Fidan observed that the organization’s own lack of willingness to follow this trajectory remains an unrealistic barrier to progress.

Commitment to Genuine Peace

Speaking to the TRT channel on Saturday, Fidan explained that if the SDF truly cares for the future of the Kurds, it must dedicate itself to authentic solutions rooted in peace. He warned that the organization should avoid pushing the Kurdish population toward further conflict with the nations and peoples of the region.

The Foreign Minister further stated, “Time has come for the organization to move toward a path based on peace and dialogue with the Syrian government”.

Diverging Visions for the Region

Fidan pointed out that the non-violent path forward is well-defined. He noted that while the goals of regional countries and the United States are currently in alignment, Israel maintains a vision that does not coincide with theirs.

Critique of Regional Tactics

Regarding the current regional dynamics, Fidan remarked, “Israel is currently trying to ensure its security through violence and wars, and by using a divide and rule tactic to keep the surrounding countries weak”. He suggested that the path toward stability requires moving away from such methods and toward a collective regional vision.
