In a meeting held on Jan 10 in Amman, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, alongside Tom Barrack, the U.S. Special Envoy for Syria, confirmed their persistent backing of the Syrian government. Both officials emphasized the importance of maintaining Syria’s security, sovereignty, and unity while ensuring the safety and fundamental rights of all citizens.

Strategic Discussions on Aleppo and Ceasefire Efforts

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dialogue between Safadi and Barrack centered on recent events within Syria and specifically in Aleppo. The representatives underlined the determination of Jordan and the United States to uphold the current ceasefire. They also highlighted the necessity of a peaceful withdrawal of the SDF from Aleppo to guarantee the protection of civilian populations.

Advancing Agreements and Regional Roadmaps

The meeting participants stressed the urgency of executing the March 10, 2025 agreement, which was established between the SDF organization and the Syrian government. Furthermore, they reiterated their collaborative dedication to the roadmap aimed at “ending the crisis in Sweida and stabilizing southern Syria,” a plan previously adopted on September 16, 2025.

Additionally, on January 10th, Safadi conducted a telephone conversation with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shibani. During this call, the Jordanian minister restated his nation’s unwavering stance on supporting the Syrian government as it works to solidify national stability and sovereign control.
