Damascus, Jan. 7 (SANA) – Syria has officially inaugurated the al-Madina “Food City” raw sugar refinery within the Hassia Industrial City. This facility, recognized as the largest of its type in the country, was highlighted in a report by the Ministry of Economy and Industry on its Telegram channel.
Output and Technical Specifications
The newly launched refinery is designed with a daily production capacity of 3,000 tons, which equates to a yearly output of between 800,000 and 1 million tons. The plant integrates specialized technology from the German firm BMA, while the Tunisian organization BIA was responsible for the project’s implementation.
Modernization and Facility Upgrades
According to information provided by the ministry, the refinery was subject to a total rehabilitation effort following the liberation of the region. These improvements included the installation of updated equipment and the development of the workforce, which has successfully raised the facility’s daily reception limit to 5,000 tons.
Employment and International Standards
In addition to its industrial contributions, the site provides roughly 250 direct jobs. Trials conducted during the operational phase have verified that the refinery’s sugar meets European standards. The primary goal of the facility is to fulfill domestic consumption requirements while preparing to facilitate future export opportunities.
