QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic troops (SDF) stated on Thursday that there is growing consensus on key political and armed forces issues related to Syria’s future, including the integration of armed forces troops. Notably, in a televised speech during a meeting of the Advisory Body of the Negotiation Committee of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) that was held in the city of Tabqa in northern Syria, Abdi discussed latest political developments and the March 10 agreement, noting that a shared understanding has been reached on integrating military forces in a manner that serves the public interest. Abdi added that constitutional matters require time to reach comprehensive solutions that encompass all of Syria, stressing that decentralization remains the most viable path toward a political settlement.

Moreover, “We believe the solution in Syria must be decentralized, and we want the people of North and East Syria to administer their areas within a constitutional framework,” he noted. The SDF commander indicated that the structure of governance and inclusive participation of all components are fundamental pillars, which necessitate deeper dialogue to reach a constitution that reflects the aspirations of all Syrians. Abdi also noted to progress in forming a joint vision with Damascus regarding border crossings and boundaries, emphasizing that Syria’s underground resources belong to all Syrians.   “There is convergence in views on the core issues, and we hope to reach all necessary agreements in the coming period,” he stated, adding that local communities should administer their own areas within a constitutional framework.
