QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic troops (SDF) declared on Tuesday the dismantling of an Islamic State (ISIS) cell in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, following a security operation carried out earlier this week with backing from the Global Coalition. In a statement published on its official website, the SDF stated that its armed forces Operations Teams (TOL), backed by Coalition troops, conducted a “precise security operation” on Sunday in the town of Dhiban, eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside. Indeed, the operation resulted in the dismantling of what SDF described as a “dangerous ISIS cell. ” The Syrian Democratic Forces explained that the operation came after the completion of intelligence-gathering efforts that tracked the movements and activities of the cell. Following this, SDF forces imposed a security cordon around the cell’s location and called on its members to surrender. “However, the cell’s members opened fire, leading to clashes,” the statement stated, adding that the confrontations resulted in the killing of three ISIS members and the arrest of five others.
Earlier on Tuesday, North Press learned from local sources that the SDF, in coordination with the Global Coalition, had carried out a joint operation in eastern Deir ez-Zor that led to the killing of two individuals accused of supporting ISIS. The sources said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to pursue sleeper cells active in the area. as per the SDF statement, preliminary investigations disclosed that the dismantled cell was involved in transporting and manufacturing explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as well as preparing car bombs. Furthermore, the cell was also planning attacks targeting armed forces positions, civilians, and service institutions in the region. The SDF has repeatedly stated that its security campaigns aim to protect civilians, safeguard public institutions, and maintain stability in areas affected by years of crisis and ISIS activity.
Coalition-backed operations have focused on intelligence-led raids designed to limit civilian harm and dismantle networks involved in financing, logistics, and attack planning. Local residents in eastern Deir ez-Zor have frequently called for persisted security measures to curb ISIS activity, which they say disrupts daily life and essential services. SDF authorities have emphasized that cooperation with local communities plays a key role in identifying and neutralizing extremist threats. The SDF did not report any casualties among its forces or Coalition personnel during the operation.
