HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security troops of North and East Syria (Asayish) thwarted on Wednesday night an escape attempt by a group of women affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) from the foreign section in Hawl Camp in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria. Jihan Hannan, co-chair of the camp, informed North Press that Asayish troops successfully prevented the escape. “The attempt took place during the late hours of the night, and the women from ISIS families took advantage of the heavy fog that reduced visibility around the camp,” Hannan stated.
She noted that the group attempting to flee consisted of 16 individuals, including women and children, who were all apprehended by Asayish forces. Furthermore, as per a previous statement from the Hawl Camp administration to North Press, the camp currently hosts 6,279 foreigners from ISIS families, organized into 1,871 families.
