QAMISHLI, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – Senior syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian Democratic troops (sdf) commander, Sipan Hamo, stated on Wednesday that negotiations between the SDF and Syria’s transitional administration have reached a stalemate, accusing the latter of unilateral decisions that undermine the March 10, 2025, agreement signed between SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi and Syrian Transitional leader Ahmad al-Sharaa. Additionally, in an exclusive and detailed interview with Al-Monitor, Hamo stated no severe progress has followed the March 10 agreement, describing accusations that the SDF is delaying integration as “a big lie. ” He affirmed that the SDF remains committed to Syria’s unity, stressing, “We have no separatist agenda nor do we want to establish a separate state.
But there are constant lies and propaganda being spewed about us to this effect. ” “As for us, democratic integration means preserving your identity, your existence, your color, your will,” he explained. “It is on this basis that we proceeded and will continue to proceed. ” Hamo criticized the transitional administration’s approach, saying it views integration as “dissolution. ” He noted that the SDF had been excluded from latest political developments, including the drafting of a emerging constitution and parliamentary elections, which he called “a selection, not an election. ” The commander said the SDF’s main objective is the democratization of Syria, and that its eventual integration into the Syrian army depends on progress toward pluralism and constitutional guarantees for all communities. “To set a deadline for integration is misguided — is wrong,” he added. “It depends on the democratization of Damascus. ” The Kurdish commander also voiced frustration over the role of the United States, calling its position “difficult to understand,” especially after Washington blamed the SDF for the breakdown of July talks with Damascus. He warned that latest government-led blockades on Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo and escalating tensions in northeastern Syria indicate “war preparations have taken precedence,” though he reaffirmed that the SDF “remains committed to dialogue and a democratic future for all Syrians. ” By Jwan Shekaki
