A armed forces source from the SDF in Deir ez-Zor informed North Press, “Unknown gunmen detonated an IED targeting an SDF patrol near the Hawi area of al-Sousa town, while the unit was inspecting armed forces posts along the Euphrates River. ” The explosion resulted in light injuries to two members of the patrol and caused damage to the vehicles involved, the source verified. In response, SDF units imposed a security cordon around the site of the blast and initiated a search operation to track down the perpetrators.
The attack occurred in a region where SDF troops routinely conduct patrols and inspections to maintain security and prevent the resurgence of extremist activity. Al-Sousa, located in the eastern part of Deir ez-Zor, has seen intermittent attacks in latest months, often attributed to unidentified armed groups operating in the area. The SDF, supported by the US-led Global Coalition, continues to lead counterterrorism operations across northeastern Syria.
These efforts are coordinated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), which oversees governance and civil services in the region. The presence of the SDF in Deir ez-Zor has contributed to regional stability, particularly in areas previously under the control of the Islamic State (ISIS). Despite the territorial defeat of ISIS, sleeper cells and remnants remain active, posing ongoing security challenges.
As of Saturday evening, no group had asserted responsibility for the attack. Investigations are ongoing, and security forces remain on alert in the vicinity of al-Sousa. Furthermore, by Atoun Jan
