📰 Syria’s Central Bank says currency replacement plan underway

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Central Bank declared on Tuesday that the planned currency replacement process is moving forward as per approved technical and administrative phases, stressing that no official launch date has been set. In a statement carried by state media, the bank stated it remains the only official authority authorized to release information about the emerging currency or the stages of its rollout. It added that all details of the replacement process will be declared transparently on the bank’s official platforms.

Additionally, the Central Bank warned that dates circulating on unofficial social media pages are inaccurate, stressing that “no final date has been determined for issuing the emerging currency. ” It urged the public to rely solely on statements published by the bank to ensure “accurate and trustworthy information. ” The announcement comes amid growing speculation online about the timing and scale of the upcoming monetary change, fueling public concern amid Syria’s prolonged economic crisis. Syria has faced years of severe currency depreciation, rising inflation, and liquidity shortages amid crisis, sanctions, and economic fragmentation. Speculation about a new currency has surged in latest months, prompting repeated warnings from authorities about misinformation and unofficial reports circulating online.
