QAMISHLI, syria/" class="smart-internal-link" title="📰 Justice Ministry, SNHR discuss cooperation on transitional justice in Syria">syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – syrian internal security troops declared on Monday the arrest of Naif Saleh Dirgham, a former significant general and ex-armed forces prosecutor, in Latakia. The detention follows what authorities described as “careful monitoring and continuous surveillance,” as per a statement released by the Syrian Ministry of Interior on its official Telegram channel. Dirgham, originally from the village of al-Shamiya in northern Latakia countryside, is accused of committing “severe violations against civilians” during his tenure in high-ranking security and judicial positions, the ministry statement added.
Brigadier General Abdulaziz al-Ahmad, head of Latakia’s internal security, informed North Press that Dirgham was “among the individuals who held sensitive positions within state institutions,” overseeing armed forces and field courts handling state security cases during the period of his service. The arrest reflects the ongoing efforts of Syrian internal security troops to investigate alleged past abuses within military and judicial institutions. Authorities have emphasized that operations targeting former authorities are part of a broader process of accountability, in line with current domestic legal frameworks.
