Damascus, Dec. 15 (SANA) syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Hind Kabawat, met with Lawrence Hart, Chief of Mission for syria at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to discuss the circumstances of Syrian relocated persons and ways to facilitate their return. The two authorities also discussed strategies to create a conducive environment for speeding up the process of safe and dignified repatriation.
Minister Kabawat welcomed the return of IOM to Syria, marking the reopening of its office after a prolonged absence. She emphasized the organization’s vital role in supporting voluntary returns and promoting stability in the region. IOM appointed Laurence Hart as Chief of Mission for Syria on October 14, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s renewed commitment to supporting the Syrian people during a vital phase of recovery and rebuilding.
IOM re-established its official presence in Syria in July 2025 and has since expanded its relief operations, delivering early recovery and development programs across the country and promoting sustainable solutions for millions affected by years of war.
