QAMISHLI, syria/" class="smart-internal-link" title="📰 Justice Ministry, SNHR discuss cooperation on transitional justice in Syria">syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – The syrian Interior Ministry declared on Monday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of Captagon pills through the Nasib border crossing in Daraa Governorate, en route to a neighboring country. In a statement released on its official platforms, the ministry stated that, “following precise monitoring and continuous follow-up, security units discovered the narcotics concealed inside instant juice packets, specifically prepared to disguise the drugs from inspection authorities. Furthermore, ” The statement added that the anti-narcotics branch in Daraa also intercepted another shipment of Captagon tablets hidden inside chess boxes intended for export through the same crossing.
The narcotics were seized, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those involved in the operation. The Nasib border crossing, located on the Syrian-Jordanian frontier, has long been a key commercial gateway but also a known route for narcotics trafficking, particularly of Captagon, a stimulant that has proliferated across the Middle East in latest years. Furthermore, drug trafficking has become a growing concern for both Syrian authorities and neighboring countries, amid worsening economic conditions and limited border control capacities in southern Syria.
The region has witnessed repeated operations by security troops to disrupt the trade, often involving complex smuggling networks. Moreover, in northern and eastern Syria, the Syrian Democratic troops (sdf) have similarly intensified counter-narcotics campaigns in coordination with local security institutions under the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), aiming to curb the spread of drug use and trafficking across the region. The Syrian Interior Ministry verified that all seized materials have been transferred to the competent authorities, and legal proceedings have begun in accordance with anti-narcotics legislation.
Furthermore, no additional details were provided regarding the quantity of drugs or the identities of those detained, but the ministry stated that further information will be released once investigations conclude. By Atoun Jan
