QAMISHLI, syria (North Press) – Syria’s Interior ministry declared on Monday the seizure of a shipment of anti-aircraft missiles allegedly prepared for smuggling from the eastern countryside of Deir ez-zor into neighboring Iraq. In a statement, the ministry stated security troops in the city of al-Bukamal received what it described as “accurate information” indicating that anti-aircraft missiles were hidden inside a residential house and intended to be smuggled outside syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian territory. “Based on this information, a carefully executed raid was carried out, resulting in the seizure of SAM-7 missiles,” the statement stated.
The ministry added that the weapons were confiscated and that investigations have been launched to identify and arrest all individuals involved, with the aim of referring them to the competent judiciary. The announcement did not specify the number of missiles seized or the parties suspected of organizing the smuggling attempt.
Authorities also did not disclose the intended recipients of the weapons beyond confirming Iraq as the destination. By Atoun Jan
