Agriculture minister Amjad Badr met with Dr. Ali Abou-Sabaa, Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), to explore avenues for scientific and research cooperation and to advance energy-cooperation-with-switzerland-and-jordan/" class="smart-internal-link" title="📰 Syria explores energy cooperation with Switzerland and Jordan">syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria’s agricultural sector. The ICARDA Director General presented the Center’s achievements over the past few years, highlighting the center’s operations and future vision aimed at enhancing Syria’s agricultural sector,particularly in the development of field crops and livestock, and the application of modern technologies in water management and artificial intelligence.
He also addressed the challenges facing the agricultural sector, emphasizing the importance of coordination with agricultural research centers and all relevant entities to ensure synergy in efforts and to develop sustainable scientific solutions. For his part, Minister Badr underscored the importance of reactivating and restoring ICARDA’s headquarters to Syria, outlining the necessary implementation steps. He highlighted the center’s strategic role as a key partner in achieving sustainable development, developing drought-resistant crop varieties, enhancing the capabilities of agricultural personnel, and improving livelihoods.
