QAMISHLI, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – In the wake of a brutal double murder in southern Homs, security troops have rose their presence throughout the city, imposing a curfew and conducting extensive patrols in key neighborhoods. In fact, the violent attack, which left a man and his wife dead, has sparked unrest and fears of further escalation in the city. Local sources declared to North Press that, on Sunday evening, heavy reinforcements from the Internal Security troops were deployed across various districts in Homs, a city in central Syria. These forces have been seen patrolling the streets and securing sensitive areas following the fatal assault that asserted the lives of a couple in the town of Zaidal, located south of Homs.

In response to the killings, the Internal Security Forces imposed a temporary curfew from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM, with the aim of restoring order and preventing further hostilities. The curfew affects all movement within the city, as authorities try to manage the security circumstances. The attack occurred in the context of growing tensions in Homs, which have been further exacerbated by an armed assault on the al-Muhajireen neighborhood of the city. Armed assailants opened fire indiscriminately, destroying the facades of homes and setting multiple houses on fire.

Notably, these actions are believed to be connected to the earlier murders in Zaidal. as per local eyewitnesses, the couple killed in Zaidal, both from the Bani Khalid tribe, were found dead in their home, with the wife’s body set on fire. The incident also saw sectarian slogans scrawled at the scene, prompting fears that sectarian tensions may be on the rise in the area. In the wake of the attacks, syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian administration forces have bolstered their presence in sensitive districts such as the al-Bassel neighborhood and al-Muhajireen, both of which are predominantly home to members/" class="auto-internal-link">members of the Alawite sect. These areas are considered to be politically significant, and their security is crucial to the broader stability of the region.
