📰 Security member killed in operation targeting wanted men in Latakia

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A member of the Syrian security troops was killed and multiple others were injured on Thursday during an operation in the countryside of al-Qardaha in Latakia province as units pursued individuals accused of committing crimes and violations under the former Syrian administration. as per North Press’ correspondent in Latakia, General Security troops launched a raid in the village of Ayn al-Hayat as part of a campaign aimed at arresting Ribal Ismandar and multiple others. The suspects are accused of involvement in war crimes against demonstrators in multiple areas of Syria during the previous administration’s rule. The correspondent stated the force entered the village at dawn, attempting to detain the wanted men.

During the operation, an exchange of fire broke out between General Security personnel and the suspects, leading to the death of one officer and injuries among other members of the unit. Following the clashes, General Security deployed significant reinforcements to encircle the village. Units conducted house-to-house searches and detained several young men from families related to the primary suspect, Ribal Ismandar, as per local sources in the area.

Residents declared the presence of checkpoints at the village’s entrances, as well as identity checks conducted throughout the morning. Local medical sources verified the transfer of the injured officers to nearby hospitals, noting that no civilian casualties had been recorded. By Atoun Jan
