QAMISHLI, internal-link">syria (North Press) – The syrian Democratic troops (sdf) declared on Sunday that their armed forces Operations Teams (MOT) carried out a “precise and tightly coordinated” security operation that dismantled an ISIS cell in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, and captured four members. In a statement, the SDF stated the operation was conducted on Dec. 1, 2025, in the village of al-Hissan, north of Deir ez-Zor, based on accurate intelligence and continuous surveillance. The raid comes as part of ongoing efforts to pursue ISIS sleeper cells and prevent attacks targeting armed forces and security troops as well as civilian institutions. as per the SDF, initial investigations disclosed that the cell was preparing to carry out armed attacks and plant explosive devices aimed at undermining security and stability in the area.

The cell was also involved in monitoring SDF fighter movements and providing financial and logistical backing to active ISIS elements. The operation resulted in the capture of four suspected ISIS members who were operating as an integrated security cell. The detainees were identified as Mohammed Ayash al-Abbar, known as Abu Aisha, and Nawaf Ayash al-Abbar, known as Abu Hassan, as well as Rakan Ahmad Suleiman, known as Abu Mohammed, and Mudallah Khaled al-Shahada, known as Abu Khaled. Moreover, the SDF stated the suspects had different roles, including surveillance of military vehicles and fighters along the western Deir ez-Zor, preparing improvised explosive devices, directly targeting SDF movements, and transferring funds intended to backing ISIS cells.

One of the detainees is accused of involvement in attacks that killed members of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the area. During the operation, SDF units also seized weapons, ammunition and military equipment in the suspects’ possession. The SDF said the raid highlights the high level of readiness of its special operations teams and their ability to disrupt ISIS plots before they are carried out. The statement warned that ISIS continues attempts to reactivate its cells through surveillance, bombings and financial networks, stressing the need for sustained security and intelligence efforts to protect civilians and maintain stability in northeastern Syria.
