QAMISHLI, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) β The commander-in-chief of the syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian Democratic troops (sdf), General Mazloum Abdi, expressed on Saturday regret over the injury of multiple members of the General security troops and US soldiers following a shooting incident in Syriaβs desert region. βWe express our regret over the injury of several General Security members and American soldiers after they were exposed to gunfire in the Syrian desert while carrying out their duties,β Abdi stated in a post on the X platform. He added, βThe increase in these attacks requires more determination and joint efforts at the national level in counterterrorism operations and against its cells. β Abdi also stated, βWe wish the injured a speedy recovery. β Earlier on Saturday, members of US forces and Syrian forces were injured when a joint US-Syrian patrol came under gunfire near the city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in central Syria, as per security sources. The incident occurred during a mission aimed at monitoring security conditions in the desert areas, which have seen sporadic activity by remnants of extremist cells.
Moreover, joint patrols are part of ongoing coordination between local forces and the US-led Global Coalition to prevent the re-emergence of armed groups in vast desert regions. The SDF plays a key role in counterterrorism operations across northern and eastern Syria, working alongside international partners to maintain stability and protect civilians. Security forces affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) regularly coordinate with coalition forces to address security threats and pursue sleeper cells operating in remote areas.
