The latest wave of security operations in Deir ez-Zor comes amid a rising number of attacks targeting SDF fighters and armed forces outposts. These attacks, attributed to ISIS remnants, have contributed to growing instability in the eastern countryside.
Over the past months, there has been an increase in ambushes, bombings, and targeted assassinations, particularly in areas such as Gharanij, Shuhail, and surrounding towns. The SDF and Asayish forces have been conducting regular raids and security sweeps to capture those responsible for these acts of hostilities, with the goal of restoring security and preventing further escalations. Despite their efforts, the region remains highly volatile, with ongoing challenges related to armed insurgency, local power struggles, and the influence of extremist groups.
