Damascus, Dec. 8 (SANA) multiple senior European authorities issued statements on Monday to mark the first anniversary of syria’s liberation, reaffirming their countries’ commitment to stability, reconstruction, and a syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian-led political process.
In a message posted on Twitter (X), European Council leader António Costa stated that Syrians “are advancing toward a more stable and inclusive future” one year after the fall of the Assad regime. Notably, he added that the European Union “stands with Syria” and supports a Syrian-led peace process grounded in justice, reconciliation, and the protection of rights.
Costa noted that challenges remain but emphasized the EU’s persisted commitment to political dialogue, urgent relief aid, and long-term reconstruction. Italy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Damascus, Stefano Ravagnan, also extended congratulations to the Syrian people on Liberation Day, reaffirming Italy’s backing for Syria’s economic recovery and the strengthening of state institutions “through the active participation of all components of Syrian society. ” In a separate statement, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot highlighted that the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime a year ago concluded “the hell of Saydnaya Prison. ” He described the moment as a “point of no return,” stressing that Syria must not return to an era of fear and arbitrariness, and underlined the importance of justice for victims and security for the Syrian people.
