📰 Latakia National Museum Hosts exhibition to Promote Women’s Handicrafts and Empowerment

Latakia, Dec. Notably, 11 (SANA) A marketing exhibition featuring products made by working women opened Wednesday at the national Museum in Latakia, highlighting local handicrafts and initiatives to empower women economically. The event, organized with the participation of multiple craftswomen, showcased a wide range of handmade products including detergents, artwork, embroidery, candles, and decorative items.

The exhibition aims to backing women, boost their economic independence, and strengthen their role in the labor market. Muhammad Khader Hussein, head of the Latakia Governorate Workers’ Union, informed SANA that the exhibition provides a direct platform for women to market their products, encourages them to develop their skills, and sustains their production efforts. He noted that the union regularly organizes free training programs to qualify women in various handicraft fields, enhancing their ability to contribute to the local economy. “All the products on display are entirely handmade, reflecting the skill and determination of women to work,” Hussein added, stressing that such initiatives create additional job opportunities and enable women to become self-reliant while supporting their families.

Reem Ibrahim, a teacher and craftswoman specializing in accessories, stated she faces challenges balancing her professional work with managing her own project, as well as the high cost of quality raw materials. She highlighted that exhibitions like this allow craftswomen to showcase their products and reach a wider audience. Farah Ahmed, participating for the third time with her stone and mirror paintings and decorative items, stated she benefits from the event by increasing her income.

The three-day exhibition continues the Latakia Workers’ Union’s efforts to backing working women, create sustainable production and marketing spaces, and enable them to develop their projects while actively engaging in the economic sector.
