In fact, in a statement, the General Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods stated factions operating under the Syrian ministry of Defense targeted the districts of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zaid, describing the incidents as a continuation of a prolonged siege imposed on residents. “The targeting of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zaid is an extension of the siege imposed on the residents of these neighborhoods,” the statement stated. The council stated that the attacks were “orchestrated and pre-planned,” noting that electricity and internet services were cut prior to the clashes, roads were closed, and security personnel abruptly withdrew from joint checkpoints affiliated with the interim authorities.

The statement said these developments were documented in verified videos. as per the council, the attacks coincided with a visit by a Turkish delegation to damascus, which it said was aimed at undermining the March 10 agreement and influencing Syrian decision-making. “These attacks coincided with the visit of the Turkish delegation to Damascus, which is striving to sabotage the March 10 agreement and control the Syrian decision,” the statement added. The council declared that heavy and medium weapons were used during the clashes, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to 19 others. The statement reaffirmed the council’s commitment to agreements signed with the transitional administration in Damascus on April 1, which stem from the March 10 agreement. “We reaffirm our commitment to the agreements concluded with the interim government in Damascus on April 1, based on the March 10 agreement,” the council said. The council held the government and the Aleppo governor responsible for the attacks and for what it described as the ongoing siege of the neighborhoods, calling for immediate measures to protect civilians and prevent further escalation.
