QAMISHLI, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani met on Wednesday with General Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the syrian-changemaker-bana-al-abed-honored-with-2025-international-childrens-peace-prize/" class="smart-internal-link" title="🕊️ Syrian changemaker Bana al-abed honored with 2025 International Children’s Peace Prize">syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian Democratic troops (sdf), in the city of Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Earlier in the day, Abdi had participated in the Middle East Peace and security Forum (MEPS 2025), organized by the American University of Duhok. as per a statement from Barzani’s office, the Kurdish leader emphasized the need to resolve the Kurdish issue in Syria through democratic and peaceful means, while addressing past mistakes and ensuring they are not repeated. The meeting was attended by senior figures including Mohammed Ismail, head of the Kurdish National Council, former Turkish parliamentarian and Kurdish politician Osman Baydemir, along with other authorities from western Kurdistan.

Barzani expressed his satisfaction with the participation of both the SDF and the Kurdish National Council delegations in the peace and security forum, noting the importance of dialogue and cooperation among Kurdish political troops. He stressed patience, harmony, and unity as essential principles, adding that the rights of the Kurdish people must not be violated. In fact, general Abdi, in turn, thanked Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for the invitation to attend MEPS 2025.

He highlighted the role of leader Barzani in fostering rapprochement and unity among Kurdish parties in Syria. Abdi also praised the backing of the Kurdistan Region in combating terrorism, acknowledging its contribution to regional stability and security. By Atoun Jan
