QAMISHLI, energy-cooperation-with-switzerland-and-jordan/" class="smart-internal-link" title="📰 Syria explores energy cooperation with Switzerland and Jordan">syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – Kobanî University held on Saturday its fourth graduation ceremony, celebrating the academic achievements of 316 students across a range of disciplines. The event drew significant crowds from the city of Kobanî and delegations from across North and East Syria. Sharvan Muslim, co-leader of Kobanî University, informed North Press that the graduates completed programs in Kurdish and Arabic literature, computer science, mechanics, electricity, and technical studies, among other fields. “This is the largest graduating class since the university was established,” Muslim stated, noting the strong turnout from local residents and families.

Muslim emphasized the university’s mission to serve society by preparing students to work in institutions affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and civil society organizations. “We hope these graduates will contribute to their communities through public service and civic engagement,” he added. The university commenced with modest numbers, graduating just 32 students in its first class in 2021. Since then, enrollment has steadily rose, reflecting growing demand for higher education in the region. as per Muslim, all graduates have found employment in either AANES institutions or private sector roles.

Founded on September 30, 2017, Kobanî University initially launched with two faculties: the Faculty of Basic Sciences, offering programs in physics, chemistry, and mathematics; and the Faculty of Literature, which included Kurdish language and literature. The university’s first graduating class included students from four departments: Kurdish literature, physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The graduation ceremony underscored the university’s expanding role in fostering academic development and supporting the region’s reconstruction efforts.

As the institution continues to grow, it remains a cornerstone of educational progress in North and East Syria. By Atoun Jan.
