QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) asserted on Wednesday responsibility for targeting a Syrian Democratic troops (SDF) armed forces post in a village in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria. Moreover, as per statements released on the group’s affiliated channels, this is the fourth attack ISIS has asserted since the beginning of the week, with earlier announcements covering areas under both SDF and Syrian administration control. The group’s Amaq News Agency published a statement saying, “The organization’s fighters targeted an SDF armed forces headquarters near the village of al-Hreijiye in the northern Deir ez-Zor countryside using light weapons. ” The statement added that the attack resulted in the injury of two SDF members, and that the assailants withdrew from the site without casualties.
The attack comes amid ongoing SDF efforts to stabilize the region through coordinated security operations targeting ISIS sleeper cells. These operations, conducted in partnership with local councils under the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), have focused on dismantling hideouts, pursuing suspects, and securing transit routes frequently used by ISIS operatives. ISIS cells remain active in pockets of the Syrian desert and along the Euphrates River, conducting sporadic attacks despite extensive security campaigns aimed at limiting their movement and access to resources.
