DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) opened fire on Wednesday on an oil tanker and the vehicle of an oil well investor in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria, after the investor refused to pay “zakat” demanded by the group. Moreover, a local source from the village of Ruwayshid, north of Deir ez-Zor, informed North Press that ISIS militants riding two motorcycles targeted the oil tanker and the investor’s car with machine guns as they were heading toward the Ruwayshid desert to purchase oil supplies. The attack resulted in the injury of a civilian worker who was inside the investor’s vehicle, furthermore to material damage to the tanker.
The militants fled the scene toward the desert shortly after the attack. Furthermore, as per the source, the investor had previously received multiple threats from ISIS via WhatsApp, demanding a monthly payment of $1,000 under the pretext of “zakat. ” By Omar Abdurrahman
