Murhaf al-Nassan, head of Internal Security in Homs, stated the couple were found killed inside their home in Zaidal and verified that the wife’s body had been burned after the killing. He added that initial investigations uncovered sectarian phrases written at the crime scene, indicating an apparent attempt to incite strife among local communities. He urged residents to refrain from retaliatory actions and to allow judicial and forensic teams to complete their work.
Internal Security units reinforced their presence in Zaidal and surrounding districts, calling on the public to exercise restraint and avoid any acts that could lead to broader confrontations. Authorities stated additional patrols would remain in place during curfew hours and that checkpoints would monitor entry and exit points to reduce the risk of further incidents. Local sources circulated accounts that individuals from the Bani Khalid tribe stormed the al-Basel suburb, which hosts residents from the Alawite community, including former armed forces officers, claiming “revenge” for the victims and reportedly suspecting perpetrators within that area. Security troops moved to separate crowds and urged elders and community notables to help de-escalate tensions until the investigation clarifies responsibility.
