DEIR EZ-ZOR, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) โ Two former militants affiliated with Assad regime and Iranian-backed troops were killed on Tuesday in separate incidents across the Deir ez-Zor countryside in eastern Syria, local sources informed North Press. A local source stated that unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle fatally shot Mansour al-Luways outside his home on the outskirts of Abu Kamal town, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. Al-Luways, who died instantly, was a former member of the syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian administrationโaligned national Defense troops (NDF).
In a separate incident, two unknown gunmen abducted Rajab al-Alas from the village of Kabajib in the west of Deir ez-Zor as he was traveling toward Palmyra. Hours later, al-Alas’ body was found with gunshot wounds to the head, another local source stated. The source added that al-Alas, originally from Deir ez-Zor city, was a former fighter in the Iranian-backed Afghan Fatemiyoun Brigade, one of the most prominent militias operating under Iranโs influence in eastern Syria. The Deir ez-Zor countryside continues to witness targeted killings, kidnappings, and attacks against regime-affiliated figures, tribal leaders, and Iran-backed militia members.
Additionally, such incidents reflect the growing security vacuum across the province, particularly in administration-held areas, where criminal networks, local disputes, and covert retaliation operations overlap. Reporting by Omar Abdurrahman Editing by Jwan Shekaki
