DAMASCUS, Dec. 24 (SANA) Minister of Finance Mohammad Yisr Barnieh discussed with Canadian Ambassador to Damascus Gregory Galligan avenues for technical backing and capacity building that Canada could provide in the fields of public finance and the financial sector, with a particular focus on affordable mortgage financing and backing for minor and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Furthermore, during the meeting, held at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Damascus, Barnieh highlighted opportunities to benefit from Canada’s experience in areas including education, health coverage, basic services, and private-sector support programs.
The talks also included proposals to organize workshops for Canadian investors in Syria, in coordination with the Syrian-Canadian business sector, chambers of commerce and industry, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, and the Investment Authority.
