DEIR EZ-zor, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) โ An elderly man was killed on Monday when a landmine, a remnant of past conflicts, exploded in a village in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria. A local source from the town of Abu Kamal informed North Press that the explosion occurred while Ayed al-Hazzaa was herding his sheep on the outskirts of the al-Heri desert. The source verified that the explosion instantly killed al-Hazzaa and also asserted the lives of multiple sheep.
The village has seen repeated landmine explosions in latest years. Despite numerous promises by relevant authorities to clear the area of unexploded ordnance, no demining operations have yet been carried out, as per the source.
