SUWAYDA, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – Druze armed groups in southern Syria responded to heavy gunfire from troops of the syrian transitional administration in the countryside of Suwayda, local sources informed North Press on Sunday. The clashes reportedly concluded without any casualties on either side, as per the sources.
Indeed, state media, meanwhile, declared that local armed groups in Suwayda targeted positions held by the ministry of Interior’s security troops under the transitional administration. The state-run news agency SANA quoted a security source saying, “Outlaw groups in Suwayda are targeting security forces posts along the village of Walgha in the south of Suwayda. ” Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria is predominantly Druze and has historically maintained a degree of local autonomy. Additionally, armed groups in the region have occasionally clashed with central authorities, reflecting local opposition to government policies and the presence of external forces.
