DEIR EZ-zor, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – Two former commanders affiliated with the pro-Assad regime militias were killed on Tuesday and a former opposition Free syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian Army (FSA) leader survived an assassination attempt in separate attacks carried out by unknown gunmen in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, a local security/" class="auto-internal-link">security source informed North Press. The source stated two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire with a machine gun on Amjad al-Shukri, a former member of the Assad regime-affiliated national Defense troops (NDF), near the entrance of the Industrial District in Deir ez-Zor city. Al-Shukri, who had undergone a reconciliation deal after the fall of the Assad regime, was killed instantly.

In a separate incident, unidentified gunmen stormed the house of Hussein al-Akkash, a former commander in Iranian-backed militias, in the town of al-Asharah, east of Deir ez-Zor. The attackers shot al-Akkash with a handgun in front of his family, killing him on the spot, the source added. Meanwhile, Ubaida al-Qanbar, a former FSA commander, survived an assassination attempt in the Sheikh Yassin neighborhood of central Deir ez-Zor when two assailants threw a grenade and opened fire with a pistol.
