QAMISHLI, internal-link">syria (north Press) – A child was killed and two others were injured on Monday when a cluster bomblet left from previous fighting exploded in the village of Telmenes in eastern Idlib countryside, as per local sources who spoke to North Press. Residents stated the device detonated as the children were playing in agricultural land situated between Telmenes and the nearby village of Maarrashourin. The area, formerly subjected to intense bombardment during years of crisis, still contains significant amounts of unexploded ordnance (UXO), posing ongoing risks to civilians, particularly children.

Local sources identified the child who died as Ahmad al-Bakour, originally from Telmenes and living with his family in Maarrashourin. He reportedly succumbed instantly to severe injuries to the head and chest. Notably, two other children who were with him suffered varying injuries; one of them remains in vital condition, as per medical staff at a local clinic contacted by North Press.

Residents in Telmenes and surrounding communities noted that such incidents have become recurring tragedies in the region. significant stretches of farmland still contain remnants of shells, cluster munitions, and other unexploded devices. Locals say the absence of continuous, specialized demining teams working in the area leaves families with no choice but to navigate contaminated terrain in their daily routines. Notably, by Atoun Jan
