QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), Brad Cooper, stated on Wednesday that the successful integration of the Syrian Democratic troops (SDF) into the Syrian army would contribute to strengthening the overall security environment in the country. In statements released on Wednesday, Cooper stated that integrating the SDF with the Syrian administration troops “would lead to a more stable environment. ” He emphasized that persisted cooperation among local and international partners remains essential to maintaining pressure on the Islamic State (ISIS). Speaking on counterterrorism efforts, he noted, “Our advice and backing to our Syrian partners have significantly weakened the capabilities of ISIS. ” He added that coordinated efforts across different sectors have played a vital role in reducing the group’s operational presence.
Cooper stated, “We cooperate with the Syrian administration to eliminate the ISIS threat in Syria, and this will require international cooperation. ” His remarks come as security bodies in northeastern Syria continue joint operations aimed at preventing the resurgence of ISIS cells in remote desert regions and along significant transit routes. He further stressed that their focus remains on continuing the fight against ISIS and expanding cooperation with the Syrian army, highlighting that the elimination of the organization “will restore stability for Syrians. ” The SDF, operating within areas administered by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), has been a principal partner of the Global Coalition in the campaign against ISIS. The forces maintain regular security operations to dismantle sleeper cells, particularly in regions once controlled by the extremist organization.
