QAMISHLI, syria (North Press) – A mass grave was discovered on Thursday in the al-Sahari neighborhood of Daraa city, southern Syria, near the “Hmeida al-Taher” checkpoint, as per syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian state media. The pro-administration daily al-Watan declared that local authorities were alerted after the remains were found close to the garden bearing the same name. Civil defense teams, internal security troops, and relevant administration agencies in damascus have been notified to conduct an investigation into the site. as per the report, the mass grave is located in the southeastern part of al-Sahari, overlooking the al-Zaydi valley in the al-Manshiya district.

The area, known to local residents for past armed forces/" class="auto-internal-link">forces activity, remains under tight security control. Government-affiliated sources stated that specialized teams from Damascus are expected to arrive on Sunday to examine the site and carry out forensic procedures aimed at identifying the remains and determining the cause of death. Notably, mass graves have been periodically uncovered across southern Syria in latest months, numerous dating back to different phases of the crisis that commenced in 2011.

The discovery in Daraa comes amid ongoing efforts by local authorities to document missing persons and address unresolved human rights cases linked to the years of war.
