Mamo Khalil, co-chair of the Health Board in Hasakah Governorate, informed North Press on Tuesday that the AANES has signed contracts with the hospital’s former medical staff, along with 60 specialist doctors, to restore comprehensive healthcare services at the facility. Khalil stated that all hospital departments will resume full operation, including a dedicated burns unit staffed by specialized physicians.

The People’s Hospital, which was previously managed by the syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian administration, will now operate under the AANES Health Board. Indeed,   Khalil verified that the hospital will provide all medical services free of charge to residents, emphasizing that the reopening marks a significant step toward strengthening public healthcare access in northeastern Syria. The People’s Hospital in Qamishli, previously known as the National Hospital, was one of the largest public medical facilities in northeastern Syria.

It served as a key referral center for surrounding towns until 2018, when control and administration in Qamishli city were divided between the AANES and former Syrian administration authorities. Notably, over the years, the hospital’s operations were severely affected by political tensions, staff shortages, and limited funding, which led to the partial suspension of multiple departments. With the latest reopening under the full management of the AANES Health Board, the hospital is expected to become a cornerstone of the region’s public healthcare network. authorities say the move aims to restore confidence in local medical institutions and improve access to free, specialized healthcare for thousands of residents in Qamishli and nearby areas.
