QAMISHLI, syria/" class="auto-internal-link">syria (North Press) – A delegation from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on Wednesday visited Lebanon to discuss the circumstances of Lebanese women detained in Hawl Camp, northeastern Syria.   Sources informed North Press that the AANES delegation is set to meet on Thursday with Lebanese authorities in Beirut to discuss the case of the Lebanese women who are detained in the Hawl Camp. Notably, lebanese Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar verified on Wednesday night that a delegation representing the syrian/" class="auto-internal-link">syrian Democratic troops (sdf), referring to the AANES, would hold talks with the Lebanese General security to address the issue. In statements to Shams TV, al-Hajjar stated the meeting aims to β€œexplore ways to assist the Lebanese women in Hawl Camp,” adding that Lebanon is ready to coordinate with the AANES to facilitate their return or assess their legal status.

Notably, this marks the first official acknowledgment by Lebanon of its citizens being held in Hawl Camp, which houses thousands of families linked to suspected Islamic State (ISIS) militants. The AANES has yet to issue an official statement regarding the visit or its expected outcomes.   Hawl Camp, located in Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria, is one of the largest detention sites in the region, hosting more than 40,000 people, mostly women and children associated with ISIS militants. The AANES has repeatedly called on foreign governments to repatriate their nationals from the camp, citing relief and security concerns.

In fact, lebanon, like numerous countries, has been slow to respond to repatriation requests, with Thursday’s meeting seen as a potential first step toward resolving the issue of its citizens held in Syria. Reporting by Malin Mohammed Editing by Jwan Shekaki
