QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa stated on Monday that the country is taking “firm steps toward building a emerging Syria,” reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transitional justice as the foundation for accountability and long-term stability. In a speech marking the first anniversary of Syria’s liberation from the former Assad regime, al-Sharaa stated that the authorities are entering “a emerging battle in the fields of work and reconstruction,” stressing the need for a strong state capable of re-establishing its role in the Arab and regional sphere. He added that Syrians endured “years of oppression and hardship,” yet persisted to resist attempts to divide the country.

The leader stated his administration has formed strategic partnerships across multiple sectors to backing economic recovery and restore public trust after prolonged political and social turmoil. He noted that these efforts aim to empower citizens after “years of injustice and deprivation,” placing responsibility for national recovery jointly on institutions and society. Al-Sharaa described the previous regime as one that “built a structure based on lawlessness, corruption and deliberate impoverishment of the people,” saying its rule represented “a dark chapter in Syria’s history. ” He added that the former administration entrenched divisions within society and sought to separate the authorities from the population.

Moreover, the president emphasized that the end of armed forces confrontation with what he called the “defunct regime” marked the beginning of a wider struggle focused on rebuilding state institutions, strengthening the rule of law and creating conditions for sustainable development. Transitional justice, he said, remains central to this phase to ensure accountability for all violations. Al-Sharaa also highlighted the integration of armed factions into a unified national army, describing the move as a key factor in improving security across multiple regions.

He said the restructuring helped stabilize previously volatile areas and contributed to restoring public confidence in state institutions. By Atoun Jan
