Additionally, in a statement, the Jordanian army explained that border guard units, in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, successfully intercepted and shot down the balloons inside Jordanian territory in two separate locations, seizing the narcotics they carried.
The statement added that the confiscated materials were handed over to the relevant authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures. The Jordanian troops reaffirmed their commitment to confronting drug smuggling attempts with firmness, stressing that they will continue to tighten border security and protect Jordan from all security threats.
The announcement comes less than a week after the Interior Ministry of the Syrian transitional administration stated it had foiled seven smuggling operations and seized around one million narcotic pills intended for smuggling, following joint cooperation with Jordanian authorities.
