HAMA, syria (North Press) – The Internal security troops in Hama declared on Monday the arrest of two men accused of committing war crimes against syrians during the era of the former regime. In an official statement, the Security Directorate stated the detainees were identified as Bilal Mahrez, known as “the Butcher,” and his brother Saif al-Din Mustafa Mahrez, both from the Hama countryside. In fact, as per the statement, the arrests followed a period of “intensive monitoring and the collection of intelligence information,” resulting in the successful operation to detain the suspects.
The Security Directorate explained that the two brothers were involved in grave violations against civilians, including arbitrary detentions, forced displacement, and desecration of bodies during their participation in combat operations alongside the former regime’s troops across multiple syrian provinces. Investigations disclosed that the two men had documented and circulated images of the mutilated bodies of victims on social media platforms, boasting of their actions. The statement noted that this evidence would be presented to the judicial authorities handling their cases.
