QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U. S. troops conducted on Thursday a tightly coordinated security operation in the eastern countryside of Raqqa, northern Syria, targeting an alleged Islamic State (ISIS) operative, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) declared. as per SOHR, the operation took place in the village of al-Mastaha, near the town of Madan, east of Raqqa, where U. S. troops targeted Abdul Karim Mahmoud al-Ahmad, described as an individual working with ISIS.
The forces reportedly imposed a strict security cordon around the area, supported by intensive aerial coverage, following what SOHR stated was close surveillance and monitoring of the suspect’s movements. Information regarding al-Ahmad’s fate remains unclear, with no confirmation on whether he was killed or detained. SOHR stated al-Ahmad had been working at a local bakery in al-Mastaha, allegedly using his job as cover for his activities and movements, amid attempts by ISIS to reactivate its sleeper cells in the area.
The SOHR added that he had previously been arrested by security authorities. The operation comes as part of ongoing efforts by U. S. and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to track down ISIS cells and reinforce security and stability in eastern Raqqa, where the group continues to pose a security threat despite its territorial defeat.
