Ankara, Dec. 10 (SANA) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed hope that Syria would achieve peace and stability, emphasizing Turkey’s backing for the country’s territorial integrity and security. Speaking before the Turkish parliament, Fidan stated, “Syria has come a long way in a short time toward reintegration into the international community. ” He added that Syria’s latest readmission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, after a 13-year absence, was made possible thanks to Turkey’s active role.
Fidan highlighted the importance of fully implementing the March 10 agreement with the Syrian Democratic troops (SDF), saying it would play a key role in stabilizing the country. He also noted that since Syria’s liberation on December 8, some 560,000 Syrians under temporary protection have safely returned to their homeland. Turkey reiterated its unconditional backing for Syria in line with agreements signed between the two countries.
Last November, the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the OIC, under Turkey’s leadership, launched a program to support Syria’s recovery.
