QAMISHLI, syria (North Press) – The National Guard troops in Suwayda accused on Tuesday armed elements affiliated with the syrian administration of targeting a civilian passenger bus in damascus countryside, killing two people and wounding 11 others, including children. Additionally, in an official statement, the National Guard stated that a bus “carrying relief emergency cases” came under fire while traveling along the Damascus highway near the Marjana area, resulting in the death of two civilians and the injury of more than 11 others, some in vital condition.

The statement condemned what it described as a “terrorist act,” saying that “targeting unarmed civilians is a desperate attempt to create chaos, undermine stability, and endanger civilian lives. ” Earlier in the day, the Syrian state-run al-Ikhbariya TV quoted a security/" class="auto-internal-link">security source who verified that “two people lost their lives after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus at Marjana gas station on the Damascus–Suwayda road. ” As of the time this report was prepared, Syria’s Ministry of Interior had not issued any official comment on the incident. The attack comes amid heightened tensions in southern Syria, where local groups in Suwayda — including the National Guard — have recently clashed with security troops and armed gangs allegedly operating under the cover of administration institutions.
