deir EZ-zor, syria (north Press) โ A man was killed on Wednesday when a landmine exploded in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria. A resident of the village of Takihi, east of Deir ez-Zor, informed North Press that Adnan Jweidan, 38, lost his life early Wednesday morning after a landmine detonated on the outskirts of the village’s desert. The source stated that Jweidan was riding his motorcycle en route to the village of Tayyeb al-Fal near the al-Suwar town when the explosion occurred.
The incident follows a similar attack last week, when one person was killed and two others injured by a landmine inside a vehicle along the Palmyra road in Deir ez-Zor countryside. Residents say Takihi continues to experience sporadic explosions caused by mines and unexploded ordnance left behind from previous conflicts. Despite repeated clearance campaigns, significant numbers of these deadly remnants remain scattered across the desert, posing a persistent threat to local communities.
